Surfline Swell Forecast / Event Update Week of August 13th, 2007
Iquique, Chile International Tow-In Surfing Championship

Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT)
Holding Period / July 1, 2007 - September 1, 2007
To Competitors and Media;
Another update for the swell later this week:
Although the surf does look solid, it will be below the size threshold set for the event. The storm stalled out a bit and, as such, the swell will build slightly later in the week than what we previously forecasted. It will come up quickly over the afternoon on Wednesday, likely strongest overnight, before backing down throughout the day on Thursday.
The largest waves will be found late Wednesday through early Thursday with face sizes of 15-25'+ and occasional sets to 30'. Event directors are looking for a consistent swell that will deliver minimum face heights of 35'plus!
Going into the longer range, a broad area of low pressure is forecast to sweep under New Zealand over the course of the next several days, potentially setting up another solid swell around the 23rd-24th (keep those dates tentatively in mind). As of this morning it looks like that swell will also be a below the size threshold set for the event but it's something we'll watch closely as it actually comes together.
Next update for the event will be on Tuesday 8/21, unless the above mentioned low really blows up in the next few days. In that case I'll have another update out later this week or this weekend.
