Surfline Swell Forecast / Event Update Week of August 21, 2007
Iquique, Chile International Tow-In Surfing Championship
Gottaplay.com / APT World Cup Tour
Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT)
Holding Period / July 1, 2007 - September 1, 2007
To Competitors and Media;
Well, it looks like we'll get to the end of the waiting period (Aug. 31st) without seeing a swell large enough to hold the contest. Here's what is on tap through the remainder of the event:
A new SW swell will build Friday the 24th and get reinforcing energy all the way through Sunday. Unfortunately, it does look to be well below the size threshold set for the event with mostly 10-15' faces and a few bigger sets on occasion.
Going further out, a large and intense low is expected to flare up near New Zealand later this week. Under the current forecast scenario, the swell looks strongest for Iquique on Friday the 31st (the last day of the waiting period) and will likely still be below the size limit set for the event. This storm has a few days before it even happens, so if we see it really blow up we can issue another update later this week.
