Surfline Swell Forecast / Event Update August 7th, 2007

Surfline Swell Forecast / Event Update Week of August 7th, 2007

Iquique, Chile International Tow-In Surfing Championship
Gottaplay.com / APT World Cup Tour
Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT)
Holding Period / July 1, 2007 - September 1, 2007

To Competitors and Media;

There is nothing tow worthy on tap in the short term (5-6+ days). While there will be a number of medium size swells affecting the region, they will be well below the size threshold set for the event.

Going into the longer range, there is a possibility of a small to medium tow size swell by Tuesday afternoon/evening the 14th, with the swell likely largest on Wednesday the 15th. This would be from a storm forecast to come together in about 4-5 days. If the storm behaves as forecast solid 15'-25' faces look possible with sets to 30'+ on occasion. Still however below the 35' minimum face height requirement.

The good news is that there is potential for a solid swell next week, from a nearby swell source (which generally helps with overall size and consistency). The bad news is that the storm will be very close, which will only offer minimal lead time in which to make a call as we'll need to see the storm actually happen before we can generate a concrete forecast.

At this point keep next Tuesday/Wednesday the 14th-15th tentatively in mind. I'll get another update out a later this week and, if the storm continues to look good, daily forecasts by the weekend through the day(s) of the swell.

Again, please keep in mind that this storm is still a few days from even happening and the event directors will not call the event unless there is a forecast for 35' minimum face heights. I'll have to see it actually come together this weekend before a concrete call can be made.

Look for our next forecast by Thursday the 9th.
