The Association of Professional Towsurfers, (APT) and Red Bull Mexico are announcing that the holding period for the Red Bull El Gigante Viene tow-in event has officially ended and will not be extended.

Surfline.com was the official forecaster for this event. With a team of expert forecasters and the LOLA global swell model, Surfline monitored every potential swell that was aimed for Mexico. Contest promoters and competitors had hoped for a solid holding period with one or two large tow-in swells to select from. Unfortunately, this was not the case and mother-nature had made her own call.

The ‘Red Bull El Gigante Viene’ was one of two scheduled events for the 2007 Gottaplay.com APT World Cup Tour. The second event, ‘Iquique, Chile International Tow-In Surfing Championship’ has a holding period that runs thru September 1, 2007. With four weeks remaining in the holding period for the ‘Iquique, Chile International Tow-In Surfing Championship’, hopes are high that the right swell will come.

The select list of 20 teams is comprised of the top 8 winning teams from the Oahu tow-in event that took place this past February and 8 teams that were recently voted in by a sub-committee of big wave industry leaders and experts. 4 wild card team slots were also provided.
