Surfline Swell Forecast / Event Update Week of June 19th, 2007
Red Bull El Gigante Viene
Tow-In Event / Puerto Escondido
Gottaplay.com / APT World Cup Tour
Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT)
Holding Period / May 1, 2007 - July 30, 2007
To Competitors and Media;
There is nothing major on tap in the short term for Puerto Escondido. The current, small to medium size swell will slowly back down over through the end of the week.
The long term potential looks a bit more promising, as a strong storm off the south end of South America is pulling together now and will intensify in the next couple days, seeting up new S swell late this weekend through early next week. As of this afternoon, the swell produced by this storm will likely remain below the size threshold that has been established for this event because the majority of the energy will be aimed toward South America (and Central America to a lesser extent).
That being said, it looks like Puerto will pick up throughout the day on Sunday the 24th, will likely be strongest on Monday the 25th and then slowly back down through the middle of next week. By Monday the surf looks to be in the solid double overhead range, with potential for inconsistent sets to triple overhead (15'++ faces) if the storm behaves as forecast in the next 48 hours. Again, because the swell will likely be aimed primarily at South America there will be some long lulls in between sets but it does look fairly solid when the sets do roll through.
We'll be watching this storm closely over the next couple days and will update you if the resulting swell looks like it could be better than the above heights. Otherwise, look for the next update by Tuesday, June 26th.
