APT World Tour Tow-In Surfing Circuit
Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT)
Haleiwa, North Shore Oahu, HI – February 13, 2007
$25,000.00 Purse
APT officials and the event directors for the Bank of Hawaii North Shore Tow-In Surfing Championship presented by Buttons and Towsurfer.com, have officially gone to a 48 hour advance green light notice to hold this world class tow-in event this Thursday Feb. 15th.
The big wave tow-in surf contest is set to take place on one of the two main big wave outer reef spots over a mile outside of Haleiwa Harbor known as Outside Avalanche and Outside Puaena Point.
All contestants have been notified and are gearing up for the first event of the APT World Tour Tow-In Surfing Circuit. Surf is expected to rock the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii in the 15’-18’ range with great conditions.
With a holding period from December 15, 2006 thru March 31, 2007, some of the best and most respected towsurfers from around the world will be competing for one of eight available slots that will permit a winning team to advance to a seeded position in the Mexico and South America events later this year. Then from there, it is off to the APT World Title Tow-In Surfing Championships scheduled for 2007/2008.
“It has been a very slow season and we are getting close to the end. The decision to hold this event was made by many respected big wave surfers, competitors, forecasters, Event Director Alec Cooke and APT Officials. It is not the giant 20'-25' swell we were hoping and looking for but it is a solid 15'-18' with insane conditions. If we do not take this opportunity to have the event and get the tour off the ground, we might not get another chance seeing how late it is getting in the season”. Says, Eric Akiskalian, APT Founder/President
